Current mc is unbuildable on amd64

Please ignore previous patch and consider applying the following (changelog entry cleaned up a little, contails build errors!):

Here is the compiler error, which I've extracted out of the second patch. 

   gcc -std=gnu99 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I..    -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib64/glib-2.0/include   -g -O2 -Wall -MT cpio.o -MD -MP -MF .deps/cpio.Tpo -c -o cpio.o cpio.c
    cpio.c:633: error: conflicting types for 'cpio_read'
    cpio.c:101: error: previous declaration of 'cpio_read' was here
    cpio.c: In function 'init_cpiofs':
    cpio.c:674: warning: assignment from incompatible pointer type

As there is really a problem which should be fixed very soon I'm adding a vote.
