German .po seems a little bit outdated, or at least some formulations could be fixed ;-o

I think, for translates need to different workflow...
By coders don't need to contribute *.po files - this work for translators (the holders of the native language).
This means that it is necessary to establish a limited access to git for translators (or create <http|ftp>-upload area on server); also create Wiki-page with list of languages and translators... Ideally in additional create http-page with some statictic about translate to many languages.

Another option would be to outsource the translation work to http://translationproject.org/. Or, since the translations aren't usually updated on a daily basis, it should suffice to provide a mail address where translators can send the files.

I like this idea with translationproject.org.. with using this we doesn't have the troubles to organise this on our own.
Would someone try to make contact with them and ask them if they can rework the translation of mc? (And translate it into new languages also?).

Better do something, than talk about 'do something', IMHO :)

Please have a look on 167_locale_german. there are some fixes inside.. spelling errors but also some stuff about untranslated (or fuzzy) strings. /me would vote for an inclusion into 4.6.2
